Introducing the Unique Blessings Maryland Extension Project

A Violence Prevention Initiative for At-Risk Youth & Families in Howard County and Surrounding Communities

At Unique Blessings Non-Profit Organization, our mission has always been rooted in healing, advocacy, education, and community empowerment. After years of serving youth, survivors, and families in Charlotte and surrounding communities in North Carolina, we are proud to announce the expansion of our outreach efforts into Maryland through the Unique Blessings Maryland Extension Project.

This new initiative will focus on violence prevention, awareness, education, and restorative support services for at-risk youth and families throughout Howard County and surrounding Maryland communities. Our goal is to create safe, supportive, and empowering environments where young people can heal, grow, and access opportunities that strengthen their future.

The Maryland Extension Project was created to address the growing need for trauma-informed support systems for youth who may be impacted by community violence, domestic violence, human trafficking, sexual assault, substance abuse, housing instability, or mental health challenges. Through community partnerships and grassroots engagement, Unique Blessings aims to provide resources that help reduce violence while promoting emotional wellness, leadership development, and positive community involvement.

Our program will place a special focus on serving girls and young women ages 12–26, while also supporting youth and families in need of wraparound care and community-based resources. Participants will have access to educational workshops, violence prevention awareness sessions, mentorship opportunities, wellness and healing activities, workforce readiness support, and recreational enrichment programs designed to encourage healthy coping skills and self-confidence.

The Unique Blessings Maryland Extension Project will also collaborate with local organizations, schools, community leaders, behavioral health professionals, and public safety advocates to strengthen prevention efforts and increase access to services across the region. We believe that real change happens when communities come together to create pathways toward healing, accountability, and opportunity.

Programs and community activities may include:

• Violence prevention and awareness workshops

• Youth mentorship and leadership development

• Healing circles and wellness support

• Journaling and emotional expression activities

• Workforce readiness and entrepreneurship education

• Recreational and community engagement opportunities

• Family resource navigation and referrals

• Advocacy support for survivors and vulnerable populations

As we begin this new chapter in Maryland, we remain committed to building safe spaces that center compassion, restoration, and empowerment. Every young person deserves access to hope, guidance, and a community that believes in their potential.
